Students progress well with fractions once they have mastered the foundation in basic operations. I start differentiating in fractions from early on, so my student e.g. Anna who is in year 4, can carry out year 6 work. There are many ways to begin tutoring fractions e.g. using a comparison of a pizza to sharing it in half or quarters (or just half if it's me :). Other methods are shading, then interactive games, quizzes, assessments, and more teaching of the different types of fractions e.g. improper and proper, and more.
